Person-Centred Therapy... what actually is it?
I practice person-centred therapy which was coined by Carl Rogers (one of the founders of humanistic psychology) in the early 1940s. This type of therapy assumes that every human is driving towards and capable of reaching their full potential (aka you!)
However, this can sometimes get blocked or misinterpreted by certain life experiences... that's where we come in.
We will work together therapeutically to understand your experiences, so that you can move towards reaching your full potential.
As my client, you should feel:
in control
accepted
listened to
understood
able to disagree
empowered
autonomous
cared for
And if you EVER don't feel the above, you can tell me (in fact, I encourage that!)
I currently work online/remote nationally. More locally in Manchester, I can offer home visits throughout the year and outdoor therapy in summer.
My sessions combine verbal conversation with creative arts activities because sometimes words are not enough for us to accurately express our thoughts, feelings and experiences. Instead, it is often through the arts that we find relief, validation, and a sense of understanding of our feelings.
Some examples of tools we may use in sessions include meditation, movement techniques, doodling, creative writing, and drama exercises. The pace we work at and the content of our sessions will be directed by what is comfortable for you and suits your needs.
